CHILDREN’S SEDATION DENTISTRY FRANKFORT

Calm Dental Appointment For Them (& You)

You don’t need a dental degree to intuitively know that many children don’t like going to the dentist. In fact, many experience anxiety and fear, but that’s not the case at Growing Smiles. Why? In addition to being staffed by children’s dentistry experts, we can also offer sedation dentistry to calm lingering nerves, ranging from nitrous oxide to general anesthesia through our connection to Lurie Children’s Hospital.

To discuss our sedation options and anything else we could do to ensure your child’s comfort at their next dental appointment in Chicago or Frankfort, give our team a call today.

Does My Child Need Sedation Dentistry?

We may recommend this style of care when faced with the following circumstances:

  • Your child has a very strong fear of dental care.
  • Your child requires an overly lengthy or complex procedure.
  • Your child is afraid of needles/receiving shots.
  • Your child has overly sensitive teeth and/or an overly sensitive gag reflex.
  • Your child is unable to become numb properly.
  • Your child has had a traumatic dental care experience in the past.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is also commonly known as “laughing gas,” and is designed to help your child reach a genuinely relaxed state during their appointment. Your child will breathe in the gas, and within minutes, they should feel calmer and more pleasant while still being able to respond to verbal commands from our dentists and team members. Better yet, the effects of nitrous oxide typically wear off within minutes, which means your child will be fully recovered in no time.

Outpatient General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is typically reserved for severe cases or exceptionally complex/lengthy procedures. This sedation process will put your child to sleep, and it is performed at Lurie Children’s Hospital, where all of our dentists are on staff and hold privileges. There are many important steps prior to undergoing general anesthesia, which we will help you complete. We feel fortunate that all of our dentists are in good standing with a top-rated children’s hospital allowing us to offer this type of treatment when necessary.
